The Spirit of Guiding

The Spirit of Guiding tied up by the towpath at Thistle Bottom.

Everything including the kitchen sink! The Spirit of Guiding has a compact but well-equipped galley with an ordinary domestic gas cooker (see below) with four burners, a grill and an oven, a fridge with ice-box (next to the cooker) and a stainless-steel sink with draining board. There is sufficient crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils for twelve people, which is the maximum the boat can carry, and space for everything to be stowed away when not in use.

Central heating is available through radiators heated from a gas boiler which also provides hot water. although we found it was not needed in June as the boat was very cosy.

There are two flush toilets and a shower; the waste water tanks will need emptying at one of the disposal sites on a week-long cruise.

Although the Spirit of Guiding officially sleeps 12 and so has 12 bunks, space is limited and a full complement of adults would make it very cramped indeed!

The photo below shows one of the two sleeping cabins and the amount of available space per person: note the distance between the bunks and imagine two people passing in opposite directions.....
